So, for those who don’t know me, I am a river rat….If you’ve never spent time on a river you just wouldn’t know. There’s something about getting lost in nature. Living life by the flow of the water. Miles from the closest road……On the river, you can get get as weird as you want, no one is there to see you or judge you. There’s only a few rules on the river…….row away from the rocks, try not to drown, pick up your trash, and poop in the box…….
I have floated most of the rivers in the west. To date the list is the Arkansas, Colorado, Animas, Dolores, San Juan, Yampa, Roaring Fork, Chama and the Green…….Hopefully I will be able to add many more to the list.
Yesterday, I did a section of the Animas river near my current home in Durango, Colorado to the New Mexico border. This is one of my “happy places” and I get to do this section quite often. Not many people get to run this section of river because all the land south of town is either owned by the Southern Ute Indian tribe or privately owned. Fortunately for me I have friends who either own or work for people who own property on the river so we can access it. I am truly a lucky man.

This is Hubert, he’s 70 and still going strong, he once told me something that’s stuck with me…….
“If you bait a trap with p***y , you’ll get caught every time!” Thanks man……I’ll take that one to the grave!
Here’s some shots from my float on Saturday…….sometimes it’s good to be a king…….
the captain and the crew Old VeeDub hangout on the river. Still can’t figure out how it got there someone had a BAD day! Danger Rock…..”a proven killer” a boat eater at low water old train trestle and water tower another abandoned train trestle a little whitewater 3 foot drop ……at least that’s our name for it Ox the dog checking out danger rock…….
